Registration for the 2008 Midget Season will be available at the Dry-Land Training sessions. The first of these takes place at Bev Facey Gymnasium on Sunday, Feb. 10 starting at 3:00 PM. Click Here for the full dry-land training schedule.
Please bring a copy of your Birth Certificate, a copy of your Alberta Personal Health Card, and a copy of a recent Report Card. Payment for registration, equipment deposits, and fund raising will be collected also at that time.
Eligibility
Eligibility for the Wolverines' Midget program is based on the player's age and the grade he is in as of January 1 of the current football season. If you are in Grades 9, 10 or 11, and you are no older than 18 before Dec. 31 of the current football season (i.e. your 19th birthday is not until on or after January 1 of 2009), then you are eligible to play Midget ball in 2008. In addition, please note that your grade is determined based on which year of high school you are attending, and not the courses you are taking; in other words, if you are currently in your third year of high school, you are considered to be in Grade 12, even if all your courses are Grade 11 courses.
Keep in mind that, if the new federal government keeps its promises, minor football registration may be income-tax deductible this year. We obviously don't know yet how all this will play out, but we're sure watching it with a lot of interest.
As with Bantam, Midget is played in the Capital District Minor Football Association. Midget boundaries mirror those in place in the rest of the CDMFA, with the exception that any player living in a CDMFA jurisdiction not having a midget team is considered a 'free agent' and can play for any team in the league. Imports (an 'import' is defined as a player living in an area within the boundaries of an existing team who wishes to play for a different team that is outside of that area) are allowed by the CDMFA provided you have a release from the team of jurisdiction. If you live outside the County of Strathcona, this release to play for the Wolverines must be requested by our Registrar (not the player) to the registrar of your "team of jurisdiction" before you can suit up as a Wolverine. You would simply make your wishes known at registration.
Midget registration normally takes place in late January or early February. We will continue to accept registration through tryouts. Players must play at least one game in order to be eligible for playoffs. (Note that this differs from the Bantam rules.) If you are interested in playing for the Wolverines Midget team, or would like more information on what Midget football is all about, we want to hear from you! Click here to E-mail Coach Reid.
Midget rosters will be limited to a league-mandated maximum of 45 players per team. Also, at least 10 players must be in Grade 9. Therefore, don't be afraid to try out just because you are a young player! Competition for spots on the roster is fierce, but we encourage all to come out to camp.
Team selection and dry-land training commence in mid- to late-February, regular practices start in early March and we play our first game at the beginning of April. In past seasons the schedule has consisted of five games, plus playoffs. This schedule is constantly under review by CDMFA.
